St Ives is a seaside town and port in west Cornwall. The town lies north of Penzance and west of Camborne on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. For a town of its size St Ives has some of the best golden beaches in Cornwall. There are 4 main beaches within walking distance of the town with Porthmeor being the best known, facing into the Atlantic and backing on to the Tate Gallery. There is an array of things to do in and around St Ive's including a Boat trip to nearby Seal Island, a visit to Truro, The ancient Chapel of St Nicholas, The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Isles of Scilly and the Minnack Theatre. Here are some fun facts about St Ives 1. The Sloop Inn, which lies on the wharf was a fisherman's pub for many centuries and is dated to "circa 1312", making it one of the oldest inns in Cornwall. 2. It was named best seaside town of 2007 by the Guardian newspaper. 3. The ancient Chapel of St Nicholas was almost demolished in the 1900s but was restored in 1911. 4. Porthmeor provides some of the only surfable waves in West Cornwall during the winter with ‘the Boiler' being a highly rated and challenging wave. 5.
